JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

 

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

 

The school nurse is a readily available resource for children, parents, and staff. He/she is an integral part of the building team in providing a healthy learning environment by
minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of optimum health and well being
in the NLCS system. They also plan for the safety of students and staff. All school nurses are
well trained and prepared for a variety of student safety issues and public health concerns.

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Instructional Capacity

  • Develop and implement health plans to be carried
    out for the safety and well-being of students
  • Educate staff about a variety of health-related topics
  • Prepares and submits health-related reports for the
    superintendent and other agencies as required
  • Maintains up to date cumulative health records on
    all students and keeps other health records as
    needed

Planning & Professional Learning

  • Provide student health plans in conjunction with
    families
  • Deliver ongoing professional learning opportunities
  • Organize and disseminate pertinent health
    information and data
  • Assist with the development and implementation of
    health policies and health-related forms
  • Interprets communicable disease guidelines for
    exclusion and readmission of students with
    infectious diseases
  • Student Support
  • Diagnose and support daily health concerns
  • Contact parents regarding student health needs
  • Support staff and students in carrying out health
    plans
  • Assess medical needs and resolve effectively and
    efficiently

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED

Educational Requirements

Licensed Registered Nurse (current RN license)
Pass a background check
Valid driver's license

 

 

 

Skills

& Knowledge

Assists with student health concerns, identification and
resolution in conjunction with school staff and
community resources. Lead the charge in regard to
public health guidelines, administer medication, first
aide and provide training as needed to staff.

 

 

 

Experience

Experience in the professional area. The advanced ability to
set and meet goals in priority order, and work with
colleagues to kindly care for students individually and by
teaching groups.
