Inclusion Instructional Aide
JOB TITLE: Instructional Aide
REPORTS TO: Principal
The purpose of this position is to assist special education students, individually or in small groups, with learning tasks and other tasks assigned by the teacher.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
|
- Provides overall assistance to teachers.
- Assigns work to students.
- Takes over classes when the teacher has meetings, parent conferences, problems, emergencies, etc.
- Prepares classroom materials; assists in the clean-up of materials.
- Maintains records such as attendance, collection of funds, field trips, student files, etc., and performs grading of student assignments.
- Monitors students at various times including recess, cafeteria, seat work, assemblies, etc.
- Assists individual students and small groups with learning tasks as assigned by the teacher.
- Assists students with make-up work.
- Assists substitute teachers.
- Administers first aid to sick or injured students until a nurse can take over.
- Assists physically handicapped students with restroom needs.
- Assists physically handicapped students on and off the bus.
- Works closely with specialists, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, etc. in helping students.
- Distributes materials to students.
- Records behavior problems.
- Prepares worksheets, letters, notes, etc.
- Performs other related essential duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED
|
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities
|
- High School Graduate with one to two years prior related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- No Special licensure or certification is required.
|
Minimum Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

- Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate a variety of automated office machines including a word processor, calculator, copier, personal computer, printer, fax machine, DVD player, television, bookbinder, other audio-visual equipment, etc.
- Ability to physically exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to lift and/or carry weights of ten to twenty pounds.
- Work involves walking or standing most of the time but may involve sitting for brief periods of time.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Ability to assign, review, plan, and coordinate the work of students.
- Ability to provide instruction to students.
- Ability to recommend the discipline of students.
- Mathematical ability
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages.
- Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication

- Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents including class papers, report cards, tests, student records, emergency cards, attendance cards, enrollment cards, worksheets, and other reports and records.
- Ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals including textbooks, teacher manuals, machine manuals, catalogs, etc.
- Ability to prepare files, bulletins, seating charts, grade books, schedules, book inventories, correspondence, attendance reports, and other job related documents using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
- Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, maintain confidentiality of restricted information, and to follow instructions.
- Ability to use and interpret educational terminology and language.
- Ability to use independent judgment, common sense, principles of rational systems, and principles of influence in the performance of tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, principals, teachers, parents, volunteers, counselors, nurses, health aides, other corporation personnel, and the general public verbally and in writing.
