SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Spanish High School Teacher is responsible for instructing high school students in the Spanish language and culture at Bedford North Lawrence High School. This role involves teaching various Spanish courses, fostering language proficiency, cultural awareness, and an appreciation for Hispanic traditions. The teacher will create engaging lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develop and deliver comprehensive Spanish language and culture lessons that align with state standards and the school's curriculum.

- Implement various teaching techniques and strategies to accommodate learning styles and abilities.

- Foster language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

- Introduce students to the cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries through literature, history, art, and customs.

- Utilize technology and multimedia resources to enhance language learning and cultural understanding.

- Assess student performance regularly, provide constructive feedback, and grade assignments, exams, and projects.

- Encourage active participation in class discussions and interactive activities to promote language practice.

- Create a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that respects and values diversity among students.

- Collaborate with other Spanish teachers to ensure consistency and continuity in the language program.

- Organize and participate in cultural events and activities related to the Spanish-speaking world.

- Record student attendance, progress, and other relevant data accurately.

- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and areas for improvement.

- Stay informed about the latest teaching methodologies and resources in language instruction.

- Assist students in accessing additional support or resources when needed.

- Dual Credit classes teaching Spanish 3 and Spanish 4. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Valid Indiana teaching license with Spanish endorsement.

- Fluent proficiency in Spanish, both written and spoken.

- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture.

- Ability to create engaging and interactive lesson plans that cater to diverse student needs.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a positive classroom environment.

- Organizational skills to manage lesson planning, grading, and record-keeping effectively.

- Familiarity with technology platforms, including Google Suite, to enhance language instruction.

- Experience working with high school students is preferred.

- Commitment to promoting a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
